The Art of Beer Pairing

The Art of Beer Pairing

There is nothing better than sitting down to enjoy a meal with good company. There are many Montreal restaurants that provide the opportunity to do just this, but not as many who will take the experience one step further. Fine dining is often coupled with the experience of tasting wines that are matched to the food they are accompanying. However until recently, beers were not seen in the same light.

The care and precision that is put into the brewing process for beer create very distinct flavours which, if matched correctly, can really enhance the taste and smell of the food being served by a Montreal restaurant.

Decca 77’s Special Touch

In the heart of the Montreal restaurant scene is a vibrant restaurant, Decca 77, which takes its beer selection as seriously as that of its food. Beer pairing is becoming more and more popular and this place is among the best to find out not only which kinds of brews are best for a relaxing night, but also to learn the skill of being able to identify which beer qualities will best complement a particular dish.

There are many events held at Decca 77, one of which was a beer pairing event on January 30th, featuring a selection of Unibroue beer from their very own sommelier matched with dishes created by Executive Chef Gilles Tolen. For example, the darker Trois Pistoles was paired with a Victor et Berthold cheese. Contrarily, a marinated rabbit rillette was served with the Blonde de Chambly. The goal of this event was to inspire people to see beer in a new, perhaps more delectable, light.

New Openings

This is not just a great way to make the most of going out to eat. Any fan of beer pairing will also be opened up to a world of unique beers far beyond the ones we always see on television. The world of beer is as vast as it is old and there is much to experience for lovers of beer but also for those who are new to the field. Discover something new this year; the art of complementing a delicious meal with an equally delicious brew.
